Tensor Tympani Syndrome (TTS)

The tensor tympani muscle or “eardrum tensioner” is a small muscle that allows us to stretch our eardrum. When this muscle is chronically overloaded, all kinds of complaints occur such as pressure in the ear, mild tinnitus, mild balance problems, feeling underwater, feeling of speaking in a barrel, tension headaches, facial pain,... Usually, the muscles of the neck and/or jaws are also tense and there is stress, anxiety and psychological overload.

What is it?

The musculus tensor tympani or “eardrum tensioner” is a small muscle that allows us to tighten our eardrum, reducing the transmission of loud sounds.

In addition, it regulates the movement of the Eustachian tube.

When this muscle is chronically overloaded, all kinds of complaints occur such as pressure in the ear, mild tinnitus, mild balance problems, tension headaches, muscle tension.

Tensor Tympani Syndrome (TTS) has many similarities with Acoustic Shock Syndrome (ASD). Both are probably another expression of the same problem.

How to treat

First, the cause of the overload must be sought.

It usually involves a combination of peripheral (muscle tension, ear acoustics, etc.) and central factors (tension, anxiety, activation of the stress network in the brain).

A qEEG will be administered to see if the stress network in the brain has been disrupted and will help us determine which neuromodulation technique could have the most effect.

Other conditions that we treat

Auditory and vestibular disorders

These disorders are related to hearing and balance and can have a major impact on your daily life.

Neurological and cognitive disorders

These disorders affect brain function, which can lead to problems with attention, memory, and motor skills.

Mental and emotional disorders

Mental illness can be deeply rooted in neurobiological dysfunctions.

Chronic Pain and Fatigue Syndromes

Chronic pain and fatigue are often difficult to treat with conventional methods, especially when there is no obvious physical cause.

Fatigue syndromes and sleep disorders

Sleep and energy management are essential for brain function. Problems in these areas can lead to severe tiredness and difficulty concentrating.

Headache and facial pain disorders

Headaches and facial pain can result from complex neurological processes.
